In December, we were thrilled to be able to welcome 9 appentices from the Snow Camp Charity along with 2 of their programme managers. The group stayed for 5 nights and were given the opportunity to experience first hand, life as a Chalet Host in a catered ski chalet. Each day, the apprentices shadowed our experienced team of Chalet Hosts at Chalet Gentiane, Jo, Ray and Molly and were fully engaged in all of the roles a chalet host is expected to carry out during the course of the season. These roles included
Communal area cleaning and breakfast and dinner table setting
- Breakfast preparation and service
- Daily bedroom servicing
- Cake baking
- Dinner preparation and service
- Mocktail making
Every single one of the apprentices threw themselves into all of the roles and worked really hard with some particularly impressive results.
Of course, one of the big attractions of chalet hosting is the opportunity to take to the slopes during their time off and the excellent snow conditions meant that the group was able to get two sessions on the snow in Avoriaz and some time to explore the beautiful village of Les Gets in all its snowy glory.
The end of the trip culminated in a delicious Summit Special Bake Off. The group put their new found baking and cake decorating skills to great effect and the results were delicious.
Throughout the 5 days, the apprentices were a pleasure to be around. The atmosphere they created in the chalet was wonderful, they brought energy and great humour. They were a credit to the Snow Camp charity and more importantly, a huge credit to themselves, they should be extremely proud of their efforts.
We have been supporting Snow Camp for some years now and it was an honour for us to be able to host the group and help give them valuable experience. We must also say a big thank you to Morzine Link Transfers, Ibex Transfers and Ski Transfers. Three local companies who helped with airport transfer provision and lifts to and from the slopes.
